A Micro Wedding During a Pandemic

A rainy day, love-filled micro wedding during a pandemic!
Shauna and Jeremy were set to get married in front of their 100 guests on March 21, 2020. But, as we all know, the world turned upside down and less than a week before their wedding date, these two were scrambling to reschedule. Luckily, everything worked out beautifully and they had an incredibly sweet micro wedding during a pandemic!
A week before their March wedding date, I sat down with Shauna and Jeremy for our final meeting. Everything was all set. But two days later, everything changed. Suddenly, Shauna and Jeremy’s original wedding plan was no longer an option. Like many couples, they had to quickly decide whether to cancel, postpone or change their plans entirely. With out-of-province and international guests to consider, Shauna and Jeremy had to act quick.
Eventually they chose to rework their entire plan so they could still get married this year. Jeremy and Shauna decided to hold a micro wedding during the pandemic!
What’s a micro wedding? It’s an intimate wedding, usually with less than 50 guests, but with all of the love, tradition and ceremony of a larger wedding. And with events downsized due to the pandemic, micro weddings will likely be the new normal for a little while.
Since 100+ guests were no longer safe, Shauna and Jeremy had to downsize their wedding. But even with the limited guest list, their day was so special and full of love. Shauna’s parents really wanted to be there on the big day, but wouldn’t be able to attend in person. So Shauna and Jeremy asked me if I knew of a videographer who could capture their day and broadcast it to their friends and family around the world. Right away, I thought of Shyah K Films. Shyah K Films was able to live stream Jeremy and Shauna’s wedding to all of their loved ones who couldn’t make it in person, so they could still be a part of the wedding.
Jeremy and Shauna’s new wedding date, July 1, was extra special. Not only was it Canada Day, but it was the anniversary of their first date and the date when Jeremy proposed. And now it’s their wedding anniversary too! In addition to a new date, Jeremy and Shauna also had to find a new venue as their original venue wasn’t open. Luckily, Jodie of Thistle and Thorne Weddings was able to help them plan the perfect micro wedding at Spanish Banks!
The next obstacle? The weather. It was calling for rain on July 1. Luckily, the stars aligned and Jeremy and Shauna were able to have their ceremony outdoors at Spanish Banks without a single raindrop. With the ocean behind them and a small group of guests seated on white chairs, Shauna and Jeremy exchanged their vows. Of course, the rain couldn’t hold out forever. But it did make for a very romantic first dance!
They cut the cake. They feasted on Chickpea catering. And they shared a newlywed kiss as their guests looked on, under the cover of umbrellas and from screens all around the world.
I was so happy to be a part of Shauna and Jeremy’s micro wedding and so impressed that they were able to pull it together despite all of the obstacles in front of them. If you’re planning a micro wedding in Vancouver, get in touch!
